How it works

  1. 1. Share your experience anonymously

Rate six areas of your experience with a council department, such as adult social care, children’s social care, education. You do not need an account and we do not ask who you are.

  2. 2. We protect everyone’s privacy

Names, dates, places and other identifying details are removed automatically, and every written comment is checked by a person before it is published.

  3. 3. Scores are published monthly

Ratings are combined with inspection reports and official performance data using a published method. Each department gets a score, and the council score is the average of its departments.

What the score means

Every score is out of 100 and falls into one of five bands. A score is only published when there is enough evidence, and it is always shown with its likely range.

  • Strong 80–100 Consistently positive reported experiences, supported by the available evidence.
  • Good 65–79 Mostly positive reported experiences, with some areas for improvement.
  • Mixed 50–64 A balance of positive and negative reported experiences and evidence.
  • Needs improvement 35–49 More negative than positive reported experiences and evidence.
  • Significant concerns 0–34 Predominantly negative reported experiences and evidence.

Our principles

  • Independent and neutral

We are not part of any council, government body, regulator or inspectorate. Councils can publish a response on their page.

  • Anonymous by design

No accounts, no cookies on public pages, and no IP addresses stored with ratings. We never name staff, children, families or cases.

  • Transparent method

Every weighting and threshold is published, and the data behind scores is free to reuse.

Need to make a complaint?

Rating your experience here is not a complaint and will not change a decision. If you want something put right, the council’s complaints process is the place to start. Our guides explain how, service by service.
